How to Drink water and its Benefits

The chain of events by which drinking water during meals can lead to illness is illustrated below.

Drinking too much water during mealtime slows down the gastric fire and dilutes the digestive juices → the digestive power becomes weak → digestion takes a lot of time → food stays in the stomach for a long time, → many diseases like indigestion, constipation, dyspepsia, acidity arise.

Therefore, one should consume refreshments only two hours after a meal every day.

Many people have the habit of drinking a lot of water at once, but this is completely wrong. Just like food should be chewed and eaten, water should also be drunk in sips and mixed with saliva.

Many people drink cold water from the fridge to get relief from the scorching heat and some people drink cold water from the fridge to treat diseases like acidity. Many people have become accustomed to drinking cold water from the fridge throughout the year, but all these are bad habits.

The body has difficulty in digesting the cold liquid of the fridge. Before we eat or drink anything, the stomach has to generate some heat, only then the digestion process starts. This is called endothermic process.

Just as a spacecraft has to be given a lot of energy before it can be launched into space, similarly, the stomach has to generate a certain amount of heat before it can start digesting anything we eat or drink.

The colder the drink, the more heat the stomach has to generate and the body’s immunity power is spent in generating that heat. Not only this, the body has to release more acid and digestive juices to digest it. Therefore, the cold drink from the fridge makes us prone to many diseases like indigestion, constipation, acidity.

Therefore, instead of using cold water from the fridge, use cold water from the earthen pot. Cold water from the earthen pot is not harmful to the body. The method of cooling water in the fridge and the earthen pot is different. The elements of the clay that cool the water in the earthen pot are not harmful to the digestive system. But the way the fridge cools the water can harm the digestive system.

The fridge is only there to keep the food items fresher than the outside environment, not to cool them down before eating! Current research has proved that if the food items kept in the fridge are used directly in food, then the nutritional value of those items reduces. Therefore, if you want to use the food items kept in the fridge, take them out half an hour before use. Even then, use the fridge as little as possible
